Dickcissel outside Hillsburgh

Postby Deligiannis on Sun Jun 25, 2017 12:24 pm

Yesterday I went looking for the Dickcissel outside Hillsburgh before going for a bike ride on the Elora Cataract Trail. The bird was originally posted on Ontbirds last week.

The bird was easily found and very cooperative.

Go through Hillsburgh, turn left on 27th sideroad, and then right on 6th line. I parked halfway up the hill on 6th Line, about 150m from the corner. The bird popped up on the wire above me almost immediately. There's a nice field there with tall grass on the NE corner of the intersection. After a few minutes of eyeing me, quite unconcerned, it even sang a bit. A beautiful male. Others have reported a female as well, but I didn't see one.
